Wunderlich Lane - Wayfinding

8th Wonder alongside SJB was engaged to curate the integrated placemaking and wayfinding experience for Surry Hills Village, a development that harmonises heritage character with contemporary design to create a new benchmark for urban living.
Blending high-end residential apartments with boutique retail, hospitality, and commercial spaces, the project celebrates Sydney’s cosmopolitan spirit while honouring the layered history of its site. Users move through a European-style arcade and market-inspired laneways, where material transitions, from aged brass and honed stone to bronzed steel, terrazzo, and textured glass, mark subtle shifts between public and private realms.
The adaptive reuse of the heritage-listed former Bank of NSW anchors the precinct, its restored masonry façade juxtaposed with contemporary detailing that speaks to craftsmanship and continuity. Illuminated signage, discreetly integrated into the architecture, guides visitors with warm light and tactile authenticity, transforming navigation into an invitation to explore.
Through the considered orchestration of materials, light, and narrative, 8th Wonder has elevated Surry Hills Village into more than a destination, it is a living neighbourhood experience, where design becomes the connective tissue between history, community, and contemporary life.
