Wanfeng Coast City – Gerry Judah – Public Art

Wanfeng Coast City is a landmark development redefining urban living in the Xinqiao Wanfeng area. This vibrant precinct integrates culture, community, and innovation, blending history with modern design. At its heart is ‘Endless Life’, a 15 meter tall, 18,180 Kg sculpture by British artist Gerry Judah, serving as a powerful centerpiece that embodies the region’s creative and ambitious spirit.
The collaboration between 8th Wonder and Gerry Judah highlights a shared vision of artistic innovation. Judah, known for his monumental site-specific works, brings his creative genius to this project. During a visit to Judah’s London studio, our team worked on production, transportation, and installation logistics, while exploring his creative process through original manuscripts that reveal the inspiration and depth behind this dynamic piece.

TREFOIL is a continuous loop expressing eternal movement in a delicate, calligraphic manner. It is reminiscent of the powerful motion of a dragon leaping from the bottom of the sea, spiralling and plunging into the sea. The sculpture is a triangular section, each of the three sides is a continuously variable curve developable surface. Made up of patterns of steel sheets, the result is a lightweight, extremely strong and rigid thin-shell structure.

Gerry Judah is a British artist renowned for his monumental sculptures and site-specific works. Drawing inspiration from history, architecture, and cultural narratives, Judah’s creations are celebrated for their profound visual impact and technical innovation.
His work often explores the intersection of light, movement, and form, creating dynamic experiences that resonate deeply with audiences worldwide. Judah’s distinctive approach bridges traditional art forms, like calligraphy, with contemporary sculpture, making him a pioneer in modern artistic expression.

Our studio played a critical role in realising ‘Endless Life’, providing comprehensive support throughout the project’s lifecycle. From early-stage design collaboration and prototyping to detailed engineering and documentation, we ensured every element of the sculpture aligned with Judah’s artistic vision and the site’s unique requirements.
